Singer Sheryl Crow has sold her Tesla and will donate the proceeds to National Public Radio (NPR).
“My parents always said… you are who you hang out with,” Crow wrote in the caption of an Instagram reel. “There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long, Tesla.”
“Money donated to @npr, which is under threat by President Elon Musk, in hopes that the truth will continue to find its way to those willing to know the truth,” she then stated.
In the reel, Crow is looking back and forth at a camera while she waves goodbye to her old Tesla, which is seen getting hauled away on a flatbed truck.
The House of Representatives panel working with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Musk, recently sent a letter to the heads of NPR and PBS, in which they called for an appearance by its leaders to testify on Capitol Hill about taking government funding to share what the panel labeled as “systemically biased content.” The hearing is set to take place in early March.
Musk has also been openly opposed to NPR news for years. Earlier this month, he wrote in an X post, “Defund NPR,” that the radio network “should survive on its own.”
While most of NPR’s funding does not rely solely on federal funds, those grants make up a significant portion of its budget.
