The popular daytime talk show The View promises "hot topics," and it delivered on Monday, when hosts Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters squared off about Walters' use of the n-word when talking about the new scandal involving Republican Presidential hopeful Rick Perry.
Perry and his family frequent a hunting camp in West Texas, the name of which once contained the offensive n-word. The View's panel of daytime hostesses were discussing the matter, when Whoopi Goldberg quoted the word, and Walters followed by also using it.
"It's so hard to know what to say now, so I just say the word," said Goldberg about quoting the name of the hunting camp. Walters concurred, adding that "it's very hard for me to say … it gives me chills." Shepherd had fixed opinions about the matter, and her cohosts' conversation about it. "When I heard you say it, it was fine," she pointed out, referring to Goldberg's use. "When I heard you say it, I didn't like the way you said it," she added about Walters. "I don't know if it's a semantics thing, but it's something that goes through my body," she said.
"It's because I'm white?" Walters asked. "It's something about hearing you say it," Shepherd admitted. "I don't like it when you use the word …. When white people say it, it brings up feelings in me." For her part, Goldberg admitted that hearing Walters use the word didn't bother her.

For me, anyone using the n-word is an extremely touchy subject.
