Zachary Levi is refuting claims that he’s been canceled after endorsing Donald Trump.
The Shazam star, 44, recently sat down with Bill Maher for an episode of his Club Random podcast, in which it was suggested that the actor’s career has been suffering since voicing his support for the President-elect.
“You got cancelled,” Maher said.
“Have I been canceled?” the actor questioned. “I hope I haven’t been canceled yet…I mean, if it happens, it happens.”
Maher then began to press the actor on his political endorsement, asking him if he lost any jobs as a result of his public support for Trump.
“No,” Levi firmly said. “For coming out and voting for Trump? I mean, listen, I have yet to see what the ultimate effects of all that are gonna be. I already had multiple jobs that I was in the process of shooting or that I have yet to shoot, and none of those have been compromised.”
Levi went onto note that he had been busy filming a movie in Europe, potentially causing him to miss some of the backlash.
“None of my producers or any of the studios behind those films or projects have called and said, ‘Hey listen this is a line too far, and we can’t have you associated with the project anymore,”’ he said. “We’re all still full steam ahead on those. How it ultimately plays out in the future? I don’t know.”
In recent years, Levi has made headlines for his controversial opinions, including his response to a tweet asking if the Covid-19 vaccine maker Pfizer posed “a real danger to the world.” Levi replied, “Hardcore agree.”
Recently, the actor has been under fire for politicizing the death of stage actor Gavin Creel, claiming he would still be alive if he had not received the Covid-19 vaccine.
Levi’s comments have landed him at the center of criticism. Broadway actor Norbert Leo Butz slammed the actor for using Creel’s death to promote his own agenda.
“Really tried to give you the benefit here. Made it halfway through, which was hard as hell,” Butz wrote of Levi’s livestream. “But was utterly heartbroken, as he would have been, that you felt the need to use his life and legacy to promote this awful platform.”
