Shawn M. Grate has been arrested and charged with multiple homicides after an Ohio woman called 911 while fearing for her life.
An unidentified woman called 911 Tuesday from Grate’s house, where she was being held captive. While he slept, the woman had grabbed his phone to make the call and pleaded for someone to help her. “Please hurry,” the woman told the dispatcher in the call, reported CNN.
When the dispatcher instructed her to leave, the woman replied, “I don’t know without waking him and I’m scared,” adding, “I’m in the bedroom with him.”
Even when the police showed up outside the house in Ashland, Ohio, the woman was wary of attempting to make her escape. “If you think you can get out, you need to get out,” the operator said. The woman replied, “Not unless they were right here. He would hear me, catch me and he’s strong.”
Eventually, police busted into the abandoned house and were able to rescue the woman. Unexpectedly, they also discovered the bodies of three other women. The remains of two of the women were found in and around the home. Grate reportedly led them to the body of a third woman.
Grate has been charged with kidnapping and two counts of murder. He’s yet to be charged with murder for the third woman that was found.
Grate has a lengthy criminal record, which includes charges for burglary, abduction, identity theft and domestic violence.
