Today show hosts Matt Lauer and Al Roker are going to make cameos in Sharknado: The Second One, the sequel to Syfy’s hit made-for-TV movie that set records for the network last year.
Lauer and Roker excitedly announced their cameos during the Today show broadcast Wednesday morning alongside their jealous cohosts. The two had filmed their scenes on Tuesday in Studio 1A, and shared a sneak peek for their viewers.
Resident weatherman Roker deadpanned a faux-report about the titular sharknado, telling Lauer, “Think of it this way: This is a twister… with teeth. Enough said.”
“Enough said indeed, Al,” agreed a very sober Lauer. “Thank you very much.”
In a clip from a separate scene, Roker and Lauer – with their jackets off and their shirt sleeves rolled up – are trying to mask their duress while completing a broadcast. Fighting a green mass – which has yet to be turned into a shark with CGI – with an umbrella, Lauer says, “We’re back live. Want to thank you for watching the Today show. We now resume our regularly scheduled programming.”
In the background, people are rushing away by the marine debris the sharknado dropped off in the studio.
