Sharknado 2: The Second One, the sequel to the summer 2013 hit Syfy TV movie, will premiere on the network July 31.

Sharknado 2 Gets Premiere Date

The Sharknado sequel has been spotted filming throughout New York City. Last month, returning star Ian Ziering shot a scene with Sharknado newcomer, Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath, on top of a cab in Times Square. Vivica A. Fox and Taxi star Judd Hirsch joined them for the scene in the center of the city.

American Pie actress Tara Reid is reprising her role of April Wexler in the reboot. In addition to McGrath, Fox and Hirsch, new faces will include Kelly Osbourne, Andy Dick and Judah Friedlander. Osbourne‘s character is a flight attendant, while Dick will be playing an NYPD cop.

Perez Hilton, Biz Marke and Salt-N-Pepa's Sandra Denton will all make cameos in the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the premiere date news.

"A freak weather system turns its deadly fury on New York City,” reads a press release for the highly anticipated sequel. “Unleashing a Sharknado on the population and its most cherished, iconic sites."

After Sharknado’s unexpected success last summer – captivating 1.4 million viewers during its first airing and nearly doubling the viewers in the encore airing – Syfy elected to make The Second One and moved the action from Los Angeles to New York City. While the freeway was the focal point of the original movie, New York landmarks will be in the midst of the chaos this time around.

Sharknado 2: The Second One will premiere July 31 on Syfy at 9/8c.
