Shark Tank star Barbara Corcoran has apologized for a joke she made about Whoopi Goldberg on The View after being accused of body shaming.
When Corcoran was appearing on The View this week she and the hosts of the show began to talk about the newest season of Shark Tank and about guest shark Emma Grede, co-founder of Good American, a clothing brand that has received praise for being size-inclusive.
Goldberg joked that she would like to try on one of the brand’s jeans, but wasn’t sure if they would fit her “COVID butt,” which prompted Corcoran to tell her own joke that didn’t go over well.
“When you get finished with those jeans and decide you don’t like them, give them to me,” Corcoran said. “I’m gonna make two pairs.”
Corcoran took to Twitter to apologize to Goldberg and anyone else she might have offended.
“I made a joke at Whoopi’s expense which I now realize wasn’t funny,” she said. “For anyone who I may have offended, unintentionally, I just wanted to say I really am very sorry.”
Goldberg responded to the tweet saying that she understood it was a joke, and that Corcoran had no ill intentions.
“Barbara we have been friends forever and I know your humor, I knew you were kidding,” she tweeted.
Others weren’t satisfied with the apology, saying that it sounded insincere and that Corcoran didn’t actually mean it.
