NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has revealed his 55-pound weight loss.
O’Neal opened up about his struggles with health and fitness, admitting that he is now down to 351 pounds and intends to keep setting “crazy goals” for himself.
“I’m probably gonna get between 315 and 330,” he told Entertainment Tonight, discussing his desire to “have a 12-pack.”
“I’ve got a five-pack now so I’ve got seven more packs to go because I want to take my shirt off on Instagram,” the retired basketball player joked.
O’Neal was honest about his motivation to lose weight.
“I was getting chubby and couldn’t even walk up the stairs. I didn’t like the way I looked in the mirror. I was like ‘I’m going to lose 20’ and then I was trying to lose 20.”
O’Neal recalled his unhealthy eating habits while in the NBA.
“I wish I would’ve paid more attention to it,” he told People. “I was such a mental warrior that none of this stuff mattered to me… I didn’t really take it seriously until I looked in the mirror six, seven years after I retired. I looked terrible. I had no definition and basically, I was fat. I was really fat.”
Despite undergoing hip replacement surgery that month, O’Neal was back in the gym within weeks, ready to continue his training.
In August, O’Neal shared a video on Instagram in which he dramatically ripped off his gray tank top and flexed his muscles, proceeding to strike a series of poses for the camera that showed his progress.
