Richardson, 38, originally told authorities that her husband, army veteran Nathaniel Richardson, 33, sent the letter. After a polygraph test, however, it was concluded that Richardson herself had sent the letters. FBI agents were seen wearing hazardous material suits and going into and out of her home in New Boston, Tex., on Wednesday.
Three letters laced with ricin were postmarked May 20 and sent to President Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and the director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Mark Glaze. They all came from Shreveport, La., with no return address. Bloomberg’s letter read: “You will have to kill me and my family before you get my guns. Anyone who wants to come to my house will get shot in the face. The right to bear arms is my constitutional God given right and I will exercise that right till the day I die.” President Obama’s copy of the letter was intercepted before he could receive it.
Ricin is a toxin that can be made with castor beans and has no antidote. It takes about 36 hours for the toxin to kill.
Richardson is an actress with minor roles on television programs such as The Vampire Diaries and The Walking Dead. If convicted, Richardson could face up to 10 years in jail.
This is the second time in two months that President Obama has allegedly been sent a ricin-laced letter. In April James Everett Dutschke was arrested on charges alleging that he sent a letter with ricin to the president. Dutschke has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial.
