Actress Shannen Doherty, 45, has recently completed chemotherapy treatment to combat her breast cancer – and her hair is starting to gorw back. Doherty, who stared in Charmed and Beverly Hills, 90210, hosted a gala for the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation in Los Angeles over the weekend where she spoke about her recovery.

“I feel great, I feel lucky. Lucky that I’m here, lucky that I get to be a part of this foundation, lucky that we get to be a voice for the voiceless and just lucky,” Doherty told People.

Before the makeup and the dress, comes the note cards. Last minute prep work for @animalhopeandwellness gala tonight. So honored to be hosting. #ah&wgala

While undergoing treatment, Doherty has been active on social media, documenting her recovery and serving as a voice of inspiration to those in similar situations.

Doherty posted the photo above before she underwent her final chemotherapy treatment. Speaking to the “waiting game,” Doherty emphatically ends her post with the hashtag, “cancer slayer.”

On Instagram, Doherty has also showed her appreciation for her doctors and the medical staff that has helped her along her road to a hopeful recovery. “Meet Anna and Vince, 2 members of my radiation team,” her caption reads. “They make a concerted effort to talk to me and show me what’s going on in this process so I don’t feel so out of control in it.”

In addition, she has used social media to serve as a positive voice, always encouraging others to fight cancer with a smile and with hope. In one post, she refers to her radiation machine as “Maggie” and wishes her a farewell, confident a cure will be found and that Maggie will no longer be needed.

While on the red carpet for the gala, Doherty also spoke about the positive aspects of her cancer. “I mean, I feel good. I’m super positive, I’m happy with where I’m at right now. Cancer, for me, as hard as it is, has been a blessing. It has changed who I am as a human being forever. It’s altered my life in ways I can’t even speak of,” she told US Weekly.

Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She is set to appear in a new horror film, Bethany, coming to theaters April 7 of this year.
