Shannen Doherty, who starred in the original 1988 movie Heathers, has been confirmed as a castmember in the TV Land remake.
The original film saw Winona Ryder as the outcast Veronica and her homicidal boyfriend J.D. (Christian Slater) dealing with the popular girls, all named Heather. The TV Land remake brings back the cult classic with a new set of Heathers. Doherty’s original character was Heather Duke, who in the remake identifies as gender-queer and goes by Heath (Brendan Scannell). Heather McNamara and Heather Chandler will have their roles reprised by Jasmine Mathews and Melanie Field, respectively.
Doherty’s role in the remake has been kept tightly under wraps by TV Land, which would only confirm that she will play a “pivotal, unnamed character.”
The new show is currently in production in LA. The script was written by Jason Micallef and the pilot directed by Leslye Headland.
Doherty, meanwhile, has been facing a tough battle with breast cancer since her diagnosis in 2015 and has been documenting her struggle on social media.
