Shania Twain has announced plans to release her first studio album in over a decade, which will bridge the divide between her old sounds and the more mature and seasoned her.
Twain, while busy performing in her Las Vegas show, found time to put together a number of songs for her forthcoming album, she told Rolling Stone. Now, the 48-year-old best-selling country artist is looking to find the right producer for the project.
"I'm pretty much there with my songs, I'm really just sitting on the fence in regards to a producer,” she told the music magazine. “So I'm listening to a lot of records, doing my homework there, and trying to determine who is the right match."
Twain, admitting that Lana Del Rey’s album is a current favorite of hers, is also a fan of Alison Krauss and Robert Plant’s Raising Sand – an album with a notably different feel than Del Rey’s. T-Bone Burnett, who produced Raising Sand, could be tapped to be Twain's producer.
Without a producer, Twain already has a clear vision for the album, stating that she wants it to depart from her older work, while still maintaining a connection to the music that made her a star. "There are probably less upbeat songs. I would say it's more half and half compared to what I've done in the past, where I would've learned more towards mostly up-tempo songs, “ she explained. "I'm different, I've evolved, and I want that to be reflected in the music. At the same time I don't want to abandon the root of what I am."
Before the new album is launched, Twain is heading back to Vegas on Oct. 15 to kick off another series of shows that will run though mid-December.
