Shania Twain has hit back at criticism over her skin-baring outfits at the CMT Music Awards. After comments were made that she should dress more “appropriately,” the country singer took to Instagram to share photos of her looks.

The first photo showed her in a purple Chanel three-piece set, cowboy hat and leather thigh-high boots, and the second was a close-up of the outfit.

Twain also shared a photo of herself wearing a red and black Prabal Gurung gown on the red carpet.

She wrote, “For me fashion is a powerful tool that helps to convey my personality and express my creativity and other than getting to hang out with my friends for the night, it’s one of my favorite things about attending award shows! Life is too short to wear boring clothes!!”

In the comments, many fans praised Twain’s style with one saying, “You CONTINUE TO inspire women LIKE ME AND OTHERS who have been broken down by the system. You being at the top and dressing sexy is more a statement of ‘I’m not conforming to your view of how a wealthy grown woman should be.'”

Naysayers also appeared in the comments, stating that Twain was “trying to keep up with the youngsters” and not dressing “appropriately” for her age.

Just days before sharing the Instagram post, Twain spoke about her hair with E! News at the CMT Music Awards. The music artist said that since she’s beginning to go grey, she’s using the opportunity to “toy around with different colors.” She continued, saying that style and fashion are part of her creativity in addition to her music.
