Shakira Teases Upcoming Spanish Album

Shakira has revealed plans to release a Spanish album after the birth of her second child – something she hasn’t done in nearly 10 years.

While in Spain, speaking with the EuropaPress, Shakira hinted that her next album would be entirely Spanish-language. “Next year, I think after this baby is born, I’ll start producing my new album. A Spanish album, which is what has me most excited right now,” Shakira said.

The former Voice coach also frequently releases both English-language and Spanish-language versions of her hit songs, but hasn’t released an all-Spanish album since 2005’s Oral Fixation Vol. 1 (Fijacion Oral Vol. 1).

The singer began her career in Colombia before releasing Laundry Service, her first English-language album, in 2001. Her last three albums, She Wolf, Sale et Sol and Shakira have been a mix of English and Spanish – though both She Wolf (2009) and Shakira (2014) are more English-heavy while Sale et Sol is more of a bilingual album.

Shakira hasn’t confirmed whether or not her next album will be Spanish only or bilingual, but the singer also expressed her desire to take things slow and focus on her children.

“Now that I’m pregnant I’m trying, for the first time in my life, to not do so many things at the same time. Although, it’s always difficult and issues get in the way even when you don’t want them to. But the majority of the time I do dedicate myself to taking care of my belly, my pregnancy [and] of Milan,” she added.

Shakira is currently pregnant with her second child. She is already a mother to Milan, her son with her longtime boyfriend Gerard Piqué.
