Shakira announced on Sunday that she is leaving Barcelona with her two sons – 7-year-old Sasha and 9-year-old Milan – after a decade of residing in Spain. The Colombian singer’s relocation comes after her public split from Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué.

“I settled in Barcelona to give my children stability, the same that we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends and the sea,” the singer wrote in Spanish in a farewell social media post on Sunday. “Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness.”

“Thank you to everyone who surfed alongside my many waves here in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is definitely more lasting than love. Thank you to everyone who has been there to cheer me up, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow.”

“Thank you to my Spanish fans who have always surrounded me with their love and loyalty,” she wrote before concluding, “For you, this is just a ‘See you later!’ and like my father said so many times, ‘See you around the curves!’ ❤️”

While the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer did not confirm her destination, reports suggest that she is relocating to Miami, where she had previously resided. Piqué is yet to comment on Shakira and their children’s sudden departure, which comes four months after their separation following reports that he had been unfaithful to her with 23-year-old Clara Chia Marti.

Following their split, Shakira released major hits addressing the rumors surrounding his infidelity, as well as their final months together. Piqué, however, seems unphased by his ex’s revelations and has since gone public with his relationship with Marti. Speaking to the Spanish publication El País on March 19, Piqué revealed that he is “still doing what I want. I want to be faithful to myself.” He went on to explain that while he is concerned with what his loved ones think of him, he is “not gonna waste money on cleaning up my image.”
