After 20 years since it premiered, the hit show Sex and the City will return to the small screen but not all of its stars will be coming back.
The original series followed the lives of four women in New York in the late 90s and early 2000s, but only Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis will return to the hit series. Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha, will not reprise her role. It is unknown why she won’t return but Cattrall and Parker have had a strained relationship in the past.
The revival, streaming on HBO Max, will begin production in late spring and will comprise of 10 half-hour episodes.
The trailer for the new show gives nothing away to what the possible plot might be but features some glamorous shots of New York City.
“I grew up with these characters and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humor and the beloved city that had always defined them,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content content at HBO Max.
The original Sex and The City series premiered ran for six seasons on HBO from 1998-2004. The show was based off Candace Bushnell‘s 1997 book of the same name. Darren Starr adapted the novel for the small screen.
The series was followed with two films, Sex and the City in 2008 and Sex and the City 2 in 2010. A prequel series, The Carrie Diaries, also aired on The CW for two seasons in 2013.
