Actor Seth Rogen has stood up against those criticizing him for posting in support of Black Lives Matter. Rogen posted the Black Lives Matter logo to his 8.1 million followers earlier this week with the caption, “If this is a remotely controversial statement to you, feel free to unfollow me.”
Critics then started to comment things such as “#AllLivesMatter. One user commented, “So do white lives though buddy.” Rogen’s response, however, allowed him to receive even more praise from fans and supporters.
To some he simply said, “leave me alone,” but to others he took another approach. To one user, he answered, “F— off. You don’t deserve my movies anymore. Stop watching my s—.”
Rogen continued his use of swear words by responding to others, “shut the f— up,” “f— off,” and “eat s— and f— you.”
Some fans called attention to Rogen’s way of handling critics. Twitter user @MunroShaely said, “I love seth rogen’s approach to racists,” attaching his screenshots of Rogen’s responses. The tweet went viral soon after.
On May 29, Rogen matched the Safdie Brothers donation to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, an organization that helps bail out protestors. Other celebrities have donated to similar groups, including Chrissy Teigen and her husband John Legend.
In the wake of George Floyd’s death, who died in police custody from an officer putting his knee on Floyd’s neck, Rogen posted an instagram honoring Floyd. The photo was of Floyd with a quote pasted over it, “Please I can’t breath. My stomach hurts. My neck hurts. Everything hurts. They’re going to kill me.” These words were spoken by Floyd himself in the video that was captured of the event. The footage went viral and sparked protests in major United States cities. Rogen captioned the post, “This is absolutely heart breaking. 🙏🏻.”
