Seth Meyers’ Son Is Born In Apartment Lobby

On Monday’s taping of Late Night with Seth Meyers, he announced the birth of his second son and the dramatic delivery that came with it.

Meyers’s wife, Alexi Ashe, gave birth to Axel Strahl Meyers on April 8, however, her labor was nothing of the ordinary, as she had to give birth in the lobby of their New York City apartment.

Meyers said on his show that it started off a “totally normal Sunday,” their family went for brunch and a walk through the park. However, when he was feeding his eldest son Ashe, his mother-in-law ran into the kitchen yelling that they needed to get to the hospital.

He then quickly ordered an Uber for them to get to the hospital, but by the time Ashe made it to the lobby she realizes she’s not going to make it.

“My wife just says, ‘I can’t get in the car. I’m going to have the baby right now. The baby is coming.’ I’m just trying to calm her down,” Meyers explained, “I’m like, ‘Look, no, because I’ve been through exactly one birth.’ I’m like, ‘This happens all the time. Trust me.'”

Thankfully their doula was also there at the time, and she assured Ashe that everything will be fine. As the baby was coming, Meyers joked that his wife “looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants. It was like someone was trying to sneak a baby on a plane!”

By the time they laid her down, the baby was already being pushed out.

“We undressed her and the baby was just out!” Seth explained, “The head of the baby was out!”

Meyers then called 911 and they arrived shortly after Axel was born and helped cut the umbilical cord. Their neighbors also helped them by giving their newborn son a towel freshly out of the dryer to keep him warm until more help arrived.

The family was extremely lucky to have people they didn’t know helping them in this crazy time. “It was just this incredible outpouring of kindness from people we barely knew,” Meyers said, he also said he “kept apologizing” to everyone trying to help.

In the end, Meyers revealed that everything is went fine, and that his family is doing well. “Everything was fine. It’s crazy, obviously.” However, the only person that he didn’t thank was the Uber driver who charged him for the unused ride. “F–k the Uber driver who charged me!”
