A video has been released online that showed footage on the set of the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie directed by James Mangold. The untitled Indiana Jones movie will see Harrison Ford once again return to his role as the iconic title character in which he will go on yet another adventure, with this particular exploration likely being his final one. Mangold will take over from Steven Spielberg, who directed the first four films in the franchise. Many fans are hopeful that the fifth and likely final Indiana Jones movie will end the franchise on a high note following the disappointing release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008, which was a critical failure.
While the set video does not show a great deal, an old-fashioned train can be seen slowly moving on a track. What is especially noticeable about the train is that it has a swastika on it, which is the infamous symbol of the Nazi Party. Anyone who knows the Indiana Jones franchise is fully aware that the Nazis are Indy’s most hated enemy, as the group antagonized him on his quest for the Ark of the Covenant in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark and kidnapped his father (Sean Connery) during his search for the Holy Grail in 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. It has been noted by fans that the Nazis served as the villains in the two Indiana Jones movies that audiences loved while the infamous group was absent during the two other films that audiences were more mixed on. Due to the film likely taking place long after World War II, it is unclear if the Nazis will still serve as the villains of the film or if they will only appear during a flashback. Since Ford was reported to be wearing de-aging makeup during the scene, the latter option is far more likely.
Many fans are unsure if the fifth Indiana Jones movie will live up to the hype, as the fourth film already disappointed the majority of fans and Ford is currently seventy-eight. Many moviegoers commented on Ford’s old age after the release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Ford was injured on set last week and production was temporarily halted.
Despite the reservations of many fans, others are excited to see where Mangold will take the iconic character when the movie is released in 2022.
