Have you ever wondered what a Beastie Boys song might sound like when paired with footage from Sesame Street? No? Well, even if you were never curious, Adam Schleichkorn, a mash-up master, recently recreated the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” music video using footage from a Sesame Street special titled Follow That Bird. The result has gone viral.
While the original video for “Sabotage,” which appeared on the 1994 album Ill Communication, is a spoof of ’70s cop dramas, Follow That Bird, made 9 years before, tells the story of Big Bird on the run from a social worker. Somehow, Schleichkorn is able to make the two videos nearly identical – some shots appear to be exactly the same.
As of this writing, Schleichkorn’s video has racked up over 474,000 views and ranks #43 on YouTube’s trending chart. It was uploaded on July 5.
Schleichkorn, who also goes by Mylo the Cat – his YouTube channel is called “isthishowyougoviral” – has started to get recognized for his mash-up work in recent years, most notably winning the 2017 Webby Award for Best Mash-Up. The award winning video paired Kendrick Lamar‘s “Swimming Pools” with clips from the Adult Swim TV show “Rick and Morty.”
Recently, the video maker has started to work with Adult Swim, making short mash-up videos to air during commercial breaks.
