Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) received negative responses from social media users after he came to Donald Trump‘s inauguration ceremony wearing shorts and a hoodie.
On Jan. 20, Trump’s swearing-in as president was moved inside the U.S. Capitol rotunda because of the record-low temperatures and cold winds in Washington, D.C.
Most of the ground was frozen and icy from the rain and snow fall which occurred the day prior.
Despite the frigid conditions and formality of the inauguration, Fetterman, who Trump called “a fascinating man,” was photographed sitting in the front row in the Capitol Rotunda wearing a black Carhartt hoodie, gray gym shorts and ON sneakers. He also had his legs spread in front of him.
People on the social media platform X, delivered mostly negative responses about Fetterman’s choice of attire.
“Senator John Fetterman with shorts and a construction hoodie,” one user wrote. “Absolutely zero respect for the public and the president. Unbelievable is an understatement.”
“John [Fetterman] looked like a fat slob wearing gym shorts and a hoodie,” another user stated on the platform. “[He’s] trying too hard to look like [he’s] one with us ‘poors.'”
“So dissapointed to see Sen. John Fetterman show up for such a momentous occasion in gym shorts and a hoodie,” still another said. “Disgraceful!”
During his inauguration speech, Trump criticized immigration as a history of lax law enforcement, which offered sanctuary to migrants who entered America illegally. His proposed measures included deporting millions of illegal immigrants, deploying troops to protect the Mexico-United States border and designating cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
He also called gender identity “the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” as if to emphasize the Republican Party’s stance against transgender rights.
Fetterman, who was viewed as progressive, surprised many by taking more moderate stances and siding heavily with Israel in the Gaza War.

Strange to believe that such an odd sentence was nessesary to write.
