Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) was hospitalized on Tuesday after she suffered a fall in her San Francisco home.
A spokesperson for Feinstein, 90, issued a statement about the senator’s health: “Senator Feinstein briefly went to the hospital yesterday afternoon as a precaution after a minor fall in her home. All of her scans were clear and she returned home.”
Around 1 p.m., Feinstein tripped over a kitchen chair. It was decided that she should be brought to the University of California, San Francisco medical center as a precaution.
Feinstein called her friends from the hospital to reassure them that she was going to be okay and that she did not even need a Band-Aid. After being examined, she was allowed to return home.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer released his own statement to update the public. “She said she suffered no injuries and briefly went to the hospital as a precaution,” Schumer stated. “I’m glad she is back home now and is doing well.”

Feinstein has had some health scares in the past, causing concern from friends and family. In February, she was hospitalized for shingles, which forced her to take a leave of absence from the Senate. In May, when she returned, she suffered complications from the infection, which included encephalitis and Ramsay Hunt syndrome.
Many have called for Feinstein to retire to let someone younger take the position.
