Selena Gomez has unfollowed everybody on Instagram after first cutting off famous friends Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Taylor Swift and Ashley Benson.
Gomez’s unfollowing spree came just days after she was photographed attending Coachella with the Jenners and her on-and-off boyfriend Justin Bieber. Not only did Gomez stop subscribing to Kendall and Kylie’s Instagram feeds, Gomez also reportedly deleted a few photos of herself posing with the duo at the outdoor festival, sparking rumors that she had decided to cut off Kendall and Kylie completely, believing them to be negative influences. However, looking at Gomez’s Instagram page, one can clearly see a photo of Gomez posing with the Jenner sisters, as well as a few other friends.
Gomez also unfollowed her famous friends on Twitter, but is still listed as following 1,293 Twitter accounts. A quick glance at the list suggests that most of the accounts are run by fans, not fellow starlets or close friends of the singer. Gomez has also been absent from the social networking site and has not tweeted since April 8. In contrast, Gomez has been regularly uploading images and video to her Instagram page.
That said, her Instagram posts have displayed a moodier side of Gomez. In one of her posts during her massive unfollowing, Gomez posted a photo of an article about Mary J. Blige’s Growing Pains album, with themes of growth and self-help. This introspective attitude may be connected to Gomez’s January stint in rehab, where she attended a program for young adults “with emotional trauma, addiction, or dual diagnosis concerns.” A rep for Gomez insisted that she was not there to treat a drug addiction.
“She needed to work on her emotional life. She needed to learn tools on how to deal with Justin and letting go of that relationship…This is the first time she’s ever taken the time to deal with issues, to deal with herself, with a therapist,” a source said of Gomez’s time in rehab.
Besides her social media change, Gomez also recently ended her working relationship with her mother and stepfather, Mandy and Brian Teefey, who used to work as her managers. She has now signed with WME and Brillstein.
While Gomez has kept a low profile since her massive social media makeover, she was photographed Sunday night hanging out with Orlando Bloom after attending a Chelsea Handler standup show. It does not appear that the two attended the event together, and they previously crossed paths when they both appeared at the We Day California event in March.
