Selena Gomez announced plans to focus on her acting career following her Stars Dance tour at a press conference promoting Getaway on Aug 21.
“This is my last record for a while. I’m going to tour it and then I’m going to just kind of get into acting for a really long period of time, hopefully,” Gomez said at a press conference for her new action film.
Gomez got her start acting in various Disney projects, most notably her hit show Wizards of Waverly Place, which ran from 2007 to 2012 on the Disney Channel. She was last spotted on the big screen in the controversial film Spring Breakers.
“I’ve been wanting to do different things starting with Spring Breakers,” Gomez explained.
The young actress cited Getaway as an example of her efforts to branch out – calling it her first action movie.
Gomez’ music career recently hit a new high, with the actress turned singer’s hit single “Come & Get It” earning her the MTV Video Music Award for Best Pop Video on Sunday night.
Her newest album, Stars Dance, was released in late July and earned Gomez her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 charts, selling a reported 97,000 copies in its first week.
Though Gomez expressed her plans to take a break from music in the near future, she also reserved the right to change her mind.
“I’m a woman, so I change my mind all the time…one day I want to do acting and just that, and then other times I just want to do music and just that, so it changes,” Gomez said.
Stars Dance is out now and Getaway opens everywhere Friday Aug. 30.
