Selena Gomez’s reason for canceling her Australian tour, which was to start on Dec. 19, may have had to do with her health. For several years, Gomez is believed to have been battling auto-immune disease Lupus, according to published reports.

Selena Gomez Diagnosed With Lupus

When Gomez made the surprising decision to cancel both the Australian and Asian leg of her world tour, rumors began to swirl about her reason for doing so. It was speculated that the 21-year-old singer may have been on the verge of a mental breakdown, headed to rehab for drug abuse and/or that she was still heartbroken over her breakup with Justin Bieber.

A new report suggests that the real reason is due to Gomez’s ongoing battle with Lupus, which she was allegedly diagnosed with several years ago. She’s been experiencing “flares” recently that cause fatigue, headaches and joint pain, a source told Popdust.

“Selena has been going full throttle the past few years and her Lupus is really catching up with her right now,” one source says. “She knows that she needs to take some time to address the disease and look after herself better if she wants to live a full and healthy life.”

Gomez’s reps have declined to comment on the reports of her Lupus diagnosis. However, after she canceled the tour, an insider denied that she was having a breakdown and mentioned her health.

"She is not having a breakdown. She wants to be the healthiest that she can be and this means taking a little break,” the insider told E! News. “But she is fine. She is Ok."
