The trailer opens with Sam and Bucky in some sort of government interrogation room with an official (Amy Aquino) where they are getting a debriefing. The agent pulls out a file and asks which of the two of them would like to give her an explanation on what happened. The agent questions Bucky on why Sam aggravates him. The trailer cuts to the two ready to jump out of a plane. Barnes asks what their plan is, but Sam does not answer him and simply leaps out of the plane, much to Bucky’s annoyance. The trailer soon shows an unidentified city where Baron Helmut Zemo stares at a Sokiovian memorial. Zemo states that superheroes cannot be allowed to exist and vows that he will not leave his work unfinished. As Zemo walks off, he is seen carrying a purple mask, a nod to the mask the villain used in the comics.
Several members of Zemo’s group the Flag-Smashers are shown putting their masks on and getting ready to wreak havoc. The trailer then shows footage of Sam training with Steve’s shield and attempts to do the latter’s iconic move of throwing the shield and having it come back to him, only for Bucky to easily catch it before Sam can. Sam and Bucky are then seen fighting a group of thugs before cutting to Sam flying through the air from missiles. Sam nonchalantly states that he has a plan. Finally out of patience, Bucky demands to know what it is.
The trailer soon cuts to Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), who joins the two in their fight and jokingly states, “Here we go again.” The music picks up as more action scenes are showcased throughout the preview, culminating in a fight between Sam, Bucky and the Flag-Smashers on top of two trucks. One of the members (Erin Kellyman) knocks Bucky off the truck, who only barely manages to hang on the side with his metal arm. An amused Sam flies to Barnes and claims, “That little girl kicked your ass.” Barnes is enraged at Wilson’s comment, who glides to his partner for aid. After the title card appears, the trailer ends with the two back in the interrogation room angrily staring at each other. Their moment is interrupted by the agent, who shows annoyance at the duo’s immaturity.
