Second Episode Of ‘The Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ Receives Critical Acclaim

Just like the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe television series WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has received high praise from both fans and critics alike. Critics have complimented the action, character development, writing and performances, particularly from the two lead characters. On March 26, the second episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier aired on the Disney+ streaming service and received even more critical acclaim than the first installment, with fans praising the dramatic moments, action scenes and dynamic between Sam Wilson/The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

The episode titled “The Star-Spangled Man” was written by Michael Kastelein and directed by Kari Skogland. It focuses on Sam and Bucky teaming up to go and hunt down the Flag-Smashers, a terrorist group that fights for open national borders and believes that the world was better during the period in which Thanos (Josh Brolin) wiped millions of people away for five years. The episode also has a heavy focus on the introduction of John Walker (Wyatt Russell), the hand-picked successor of Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) by the U.S. government, who attempts to team up with Sam and Bucky. However, the two lead heroes want nothing to do with Walker, as both Sam and especially Bucky are angered that the government chose a random person to hold the shield of Captain America as opposed to Sam, who Steve personally chose to be his successor. In addition to dealing with the frustrating presence of Walker, Sam and Bucky are at odds with one another as the latter is enraged that Sam gave Steve’s shield to the government after he was chosen to be the successor while the former is disgusted that Bucky has hid the information of another super soldier (Carl Lumbly) from the past being alive. Toward the end of the episode, Sam and Bucky resolve to go their separate ways after completing their mission and decide to visit the villain Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) for answers about the Flag-Smashers.
