Sean Penn had an odd interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where he admits to being on Ambien and smokes while on air.
The criticall -acclaimed actor made a, in the words of Colbert, “low-key” appearance on the late night show on Monday night. Penn admitted at the beginning of the interview that he was still experiencing the affects of Ambien from his flight earlier. He tells Colbert, “You’ve inherited a little of the Ambien I had to take to get to sleep after a red-eye last night.”

Shortly after, Penn pulls out a cigarette and starts smoking mid-conversation, which caused Colbert to promptly pull out an ashtray from under his desk and says to Penn, “I thought you might.”
Penn then talked about how he is over acting because over the years he has learned that he “doesn’t play well with others,” and that he has instead been writing a novel titled Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff. “I didn’t have collaborators, I was never disappointed with me,” he said with a smirk.
Later on in the interview, Colbert brought up Penn’s smoking habit and asks if he has ever considered quitting cigarettes. He told the actor, “Please don’t smoke anymore. I don’t mind. My parents smoked when I was a child so it gives me happy memories to smell cigarette smoke, but you know we want you to be around for a long time and those things are bad for you.”

Penn quickly joked that it is “job security for oncologists.”
After the interview aired, many fans were confused about Penn’s unusual behavior. Many noted that the actor looked extremely disheveled.
