Sean Penn Slams Haiti Charity Critics

From the remix of “We Are The World,” which crammed as many celebrities onto one track as they could fit in the recording studio, to songs like “Hold On” by Wyclef Jean," Hollywood has put its best foot forward to show its solidarity with the people of Haiti. But the sheer output of songs and commercial spots has caused critics to charge that celebrities are milking the tragedy for money and buzz.

Sean Penn, who has done as much volunteer work in Haiti as any star, is having none of it from the haters. “You know, do I hope that those people die screaming of rectal cancer?" Penn tells 60 Minutes. "Yeah, you know, but I’m not going to spend a lot of energy on it.”

Penn went to Haiti in January with 11 doctors and an American businesswoman who helped him establish a private foundation there to help the recovery effort. He has toured the country several times since then contributing such things as water filters and food. –KADEEN GRIFFITHS
