Sean Lowe, star of season 17 of The Bachelor, opened up about the finale that aired on Monday night in a blog post on People.com.

Sean was elated at the prospect of his family getting to meet the two women he was falling in love with, Catherine Giudici and Lindsay Yenter. At the time, he believed that their interaction with his parents and sister would give him the clarity needed to pick one of them. However, he realized that both Catherine and Lindsay got along great with his family; therefore, the introductions provided little separation.

Describing his mother’s tearful chat with him he wrote, “She is the most loving mom in the world and she only wants the best for her son. The gravity of the situation and the decision that was looming over me was stressing her out because, like any good mother, she didn't want me to feel pressured to make a decision I'd later regret.”

Sean then described the final dates he had with the two remaining women. After recounting the boat ride and romantic dinner with Lindsay he wrote, “I loved her strength, I loved her heart, I loved her compassion and I loved being around her. But I still wasn't sure she would be my wife one day. I knew I had another date with Catherine and that I was still torn.”

When he saw Catherine, he was overcome with excitement at being able to fulfill Catherine’s bucket list item of riding on the back of an elephant. When they went back to hang out in Catherine’s room together he admitted, “It was during this time that I started to understand my feelings for the two women. Yes, I loved Lindsay, but I was in love with Catherine. I knew that I never wanted to say goodbye to Catherine and I wanted to spend the rest of my life loving her. “

When it came to the day of the final rose ceremony, Sean said, “I knew in my heart that I wanted to spend forever with Catherine, which meant that I had to say goodbye to Lindsay.” He described having to break up with Lindsay as one of the hardest things he’s ever had to do. However, after he read Catherine’s letter and then saw her walking towards him, he was overcome with eagerness to tell her how he felt. “Asking Catherine to marry me was one of the most special moments of my life,” he confessed. “My heart was overcome with joy, and everything that I had been through that led me to that moment suddenly made perfect sense.”

Sean and Catherine plan to get married soon in nuptials that will air on ABC.
