Scott Peterson, Convicted Of Murdering Pregnant Wife, Beaten In Prison Over A Pickleball Game

Convicted murderer Scott Peterson received a harsh beating behind bars on March 9.

Following a pickleball match between Peterson, 51, and another inmate, Peterson was “beat up” after he violently hit a pickleball directly at the other prisoner. Despite the reported severity of the beating, Peterson was not injured enough to be taken to the hospital.

In 2004, Peterson was convicted of killing his 8-months-pregnant wife, Laci, on Christmas Eve, two years earlier. Initially “helping” detectives with the investigation, Peterson became a prime suspect when it was discovered that he was having an affair. It was four months later that authorities found the remains of Laci’s body in the San Francisco Bay and the unborn son’s body roughly a mile away. Peterson was arrested shortly after, 30 miles from the Mexican border, where police allege he was prepared to flee.

Peterson continually insisted he was innocent but was found guilty of first-degree murder and second-degree murder. He was sentenced to death in 2005 but later resentenced to life without the possibility of parole. He is being held at Mule Creek State Prison in Northern California.

The detective who worked the case found that Peterson was having an affair with Amber Frey at the time of the murder,and reasoned Peterson’s motivation to be “he didn’t want to pay child support, didn’t want to pay spousal [support] and this is the way he thought about getting out of it.”

Peterson denounced this theory as “offensive and so disgusting.” 

He insisted, “I certainly regret cheating…it was about a childish lack of self-esteem, selfish me traveling somewhere, lonely that night because I wasn’t at home. Someone makes you feel good because they want to have sex with you, but if I have a chance to show people what the truth is, and if they are willing to accept it, it would be the biggest thing that I can accomplish right now.”

“Because I didn’t kill my family,” he added.
