The Vampire Diaries recently added actor Scott Parks to the cast as one of the many forms of the elusive villain Silas, according to Entertainment Weekly. Parks will have the task of jumping into a villain whose sadistic reputation preceded the unveiling of his face. Having killed Jeremy, he’ll be a reviled character before he even utters a word.
Parks, however, definitely wasn’t everyone’s first choice for the role. TVD heartthrob and rumored Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation, Ian Somerhalder (pictured), had set his sights on someone slightly older – Regis Philbin.
“I mean, it’s The Vampire Diaries, so he’s probably young. But we could flip it a little bit… So, I’m thinking… Didn’t Regis [Philbin] retire? He could come back,” Somerhalder suggested to EW. “He’s not crotchety, he’s awesome. I’m gonna talk to [CW president] Mark Pedowitz and [Warner Bros. TV president] Peter Roth about that.”
Whether he likes it or not, Somerhalder is stuck with Parks, whose previous credits include a guest-starring role in Homeland and movie roles in The Waters: Phase One and Port City. No word on yet when he'll debut as the character, but hopefully sooner rather than later as the current season of The Vampire Diaries is set to come to a close on May 16.
