Scarlett Johansson and her twin brother Hunter Johansson co-hosted the second annual Friends of Rockaway’s 2014 Hurricane Sandy Benefit in New York on Tuesday.

Johansson, 29, hosted the event to raise money for Giants of Generosity and Friends of Rockaway, two organizations working to rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.

“I am proud to support Friends of Rockaway and Giants of Generosity who are working every day to rebuild the homes of Hurricane Sandy victims. The devastating effects of Sandy have an enormous impact on the lives of thousands still and Friends of Rockaway provide life-changing assistance for those families in need,” Johansson said prior to the event.

The Avengers actress looked stunning in black and blue dress by Proenza Schouler, making her highly anticipated return to the red carpet since welcoming her daughter, Rose Dorothy, with fiancé Romain Dauriac, two months ago. Johansson said she felt compelled to attend the event as a native New Yorker.

“Hunter and I were here in New York – we were 15 years old when September 11 happened, and that was pretty shocking. We thought the city that we grew up in was rock solid, and it shook the foundation of the city – for very different reasons obviously,” Johansson told Us Weekly.

“Seeing the city shaken once more [by Hurricane Sandy]; it was totally totally shocking for the people that were living here. Two years later, people are feeling huge effects of this devastating loss,” Johnasson added.

Scarlett and Hunter Johansson shared hosting duties and helped honor Josh Lockwood of the American Red Cross, Susan Sack of the Robin Hood Foundation and New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, among others.

For $1,000, guests attended the dinner portion of the ceremony, hosted by the Johansson twins, and the Jamie Foxx Benefit Concert – tickets for the concert only were sold for $150.

Johansson will next be seen on the big screen in Avengers: Age of Ultron, set for release on May 1, 2015.
