Scarlett Johansson appears on the May cover of Glamour and gave a revealing interview in which she confesses her distaste for her media nickname ‘ScarJo’ and opens up about her failed marriage to Ryan Reynolds.
Johansson is now engaged to Romain Dauriac and reportedly pregnant with her first child, but she was first married to actor Ryan Reynolds from 2008 until their divorce was finalized in 2011.
While both Reynolds, who is now married to Blake Lively, and Johansson have remained tight lipped on the details of their courtship and marriage, Johansson, now 29, hinted that, in hindsight, she realized that she had a lot of growing to do before truly being able to commit to marriage.
“When I first married, I was much younger. And I have had the opportunity now to work more on getting to know myself. I think that makes you a better partner and somebody who is able to work with somebody and stay in a relationship in the not-romantic moments. I have more patience with myself. I have more patience with my partner. I think that just comes with age, probably,” Johansson told Glamour.
Johansson was careful not to name Reynolds or imply that she was blaming her ex for the demise of their marriage, saying, “That’s not necessarily any reflection of who I was married to or what was happening in my marriage, but really where I was in my life.”
That said, Johansson admits that it is somewhat easier having a significant other who is not an actor.
“We do different things. He’s in the whole art-scene world. So it’s nice, because we can enjoy each other’s worlds, but we don’t have our crazy conflicting schedules and all that other stuff to contend with,” Johansson said about her creative advertising beau.
As for her wedding to finacé Dauriac, Johansson revealed she hasn’t given much thought to the planning of the ceremony, but insists she won’t need to do a lot of wedding planning because it simply does not interest her.
“I’ve never been one to do a full-on themed wedding. I don’t care about that stuff,” Johansson said.
Love life aside, Johansson also spoke to Glamour about her nickname in the media: ScarJo. The actress, frequently named ‘Sexiest Woman Alive,' finds the shortened name offensive and insulting, saying it reminds her of a “pop star” and “sounds tacky.”
“It’s lazy and flippant… There’s something insulting about it,” Johansson stated, making her feelings clear.
Johansson’s May Glamour cover hits newsstands April 18, and the actress will also cover the May issue of Vanity Fair. Johansson is currently staring in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Under the Skin.
