The reboot of Scarface written by the Coen brothers is set to be directed by Luca Guadagnino, the Oscar-nominated director of Call Me By Your Name.
The movie is set in Los Angeles, and will be the third version of the story, which originally was created in 1932, and then was re-imagined in 1983. The original story is inspired on Al Capone’s life and the Italian mafia in Chicago. The 1983 movie, which was directed by Brian De Palma and starred Al Pacino, took the story to Miami, and focused on a fictional Cuban refugee and cocaine kingpin.
So far, we only the know that the reboot will take us to L.A., and continue to focus on “the core immigrant story.”
The Scarface reboot for Universal Pictures will be produced by Dylan Clark under Dylan Clark Productions, and executive produced by Dylan Clark Productions Vice President Brian Williams, as well as Scott Stuber and Marco Marabito.
Guadagnino has most recently worked on the Suspiria remake for Amazon Prime Video, which starred Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson. He has also been in post-production for an HBO limited series called We Are Who We Are, which stars Kid Cudi and Alice Braga. He has said he plans to direct a Lord of the Flies remake for Warner Bros..
There have been no announcements about the Scarface cast or release date as Hollywood remains shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
