'Scandal' Spoilers: Still Hope For Liv And Fitz And Jake Makes It Out Of The Hole

Scandal’s third season will not only see the fallout from the revelation naming Olivia as Fitz’ mistress, but will also see Fitz running for reelection in the midst of his sex scandal.

Whether or not President Grant (Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) survive the media firestorm following the news of the affair, Fitz will be forced to confront the story during a presidential debate, reports E! News.

Fans will also remember that the finale left off with a surprise appearance by Olivia’s father. Showrunner Shonda Rimes promises that the season three premiere, which picks up “exactly 22 minutes” after the finale left off, will definitely keep that story line alive. Rimes told E! News that Olivia’s father will be a prominent figure in the first half of the season and will also serve as a way to learn more about Olivia’s character.

And, while Fitz and Olivia’s relationship is far from peaceful, fans of Liv and Fitz shouldn’t give up just yet.

“When we come into the season, Mellie (Bellamy Young) does have things managed on the marital front. But I think Fitz and Liv have an inexplicable attraction to each other. People may be surprised to discover what certain motives are in the situations they’ve been working in,” Rhimes teased to TV Line.

Vague as her answer seems, Rhimes is adamant that the love affair between the fixer and the President is far from over.

“It’s not finished,” she said.

That’s not to say it won’t face new challenges in the coming season. Jake (Scott Foley) will get himself out of the Hole and Rhimes teased fans that he might have a place in a love triangle involving Fitz and Olivia. Foley was also hired as a series regular for the third season, so fans can expect much more of Jake going forward.

The third season also promises to answer background questions about Harrison (Columbus Short), with a huge reveal in the season finale, and Huck (Guiellermo Diaz).

Scandal returns Oct. 3 on ABC. Kerry Washington, who was nominated for an Emmy for her work on the show, called the season three premiere “Awe-inspiring.”
