Saturday Night Live took on the 2024 vice-presidential debate, but instead of the usual political sparring, the candidates found themselves in an unexpectedly friendly exchange. SNL leaned into the humor, showcasing a surprising “bromance” between JD Vance (Bowen Yang) and Tim Walz (Jim Gaffigan).

The sketch began with Vance addressing a tough question about calling the former president “America’s Hitler.” When asked if he regretted it, he quipped, “Well, the context matters. I meant that as a compliment.”

Walz responded with genuine admiration: “Wow. This guy’s good. He’s got an answer for everything.”

The lighthearted back-and-forth continued with Vance humbly replying, “That’s quite kind.” Walz’s friendly “Hey, you’re welcome” had the audience laughing at the unlikely chemistry between the two.

Moderator Nora O’Donnell (Heidi Gardner) was baffled, commenting, “I’m not sure why you two are connecting, but let’s move on.”

The next question to Walz was equally offbeat, referencing his false claim of being in Hong Kong during the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre. His explanation? “I went to EPCOT, had a couple in the Germany section, and thought I went to China.”

The two continued to bond. “I’m a knucklehead,” Walz said, “but I’m sure this guy’s got things he wants to back out of, too.”

Vance agreed, “That’s an area where we have a lot of common ground.”

The two SNL actors lock their eyes and press their hands together across the split screen, with the audience laughing at the absurdity of the moment.

The final comedic punch came from Dana Carvey’s appearance as the president, offering a rambling pep talk: “Hey, kiddo, here’s the deal. The vice president doesn’t matter… Who the hell was Obama’s VP?”

When reminded it was him, the president shrugged it off, saying, “You’re going to make a great president. When you’re done, it’ll be my turn!”
