Saturday Night Live showed a lot of high-powered individuals in need of an apology this week.
In Saturday’s opening sketch, Britney Spears, played by Chloe Fineman, hosted a show called Oops… You Did It Again, providing a platform where people can apologize for their actions.
“You may know me from my upbeat Instagram videos and the word ‘conservatorship’,” said Fineman’s Spears.
The first guest was Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, played by Aidy Bryant, dressed like he just returned from a Caribbean vacation. Cruz received a lot of heat last week when he traveled to Cancún, Mexico while Texas was in a state of emergency from a recent winter storm.
“Hola everyone,” Bryant’s Cruz said. “I’m not tan. I just cried myself red over my fellow Texans.”
Spears brought up that Cruz “literally abandoned it [Texas] and flew to Cancún.” Cruz replied with, “And now I’m in a bit of hot water, which I’m told is a thing that no one in Texas has.”
When asked if he wanted to apologize, he said, “I deeply regret my actions over the last couple days. Mostly, flying United.”
The next guest on the show was New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, played by New York native Pete Davidson.
“Governor, do you know why you’re here today,” asked Spears.
“Is it because indoor dining is back in New York?” replied Davidson’s Cuomo. “Alright, it’s because of the nursing home stuff.”
Gina Carano, played by Cecily Strong was the final guest on the show after Carano was recently fired from Disney+’s The Mandalorian after offensive posts on social media.
“I’ve done nothing wrong,” Carano said. “No one can even explain what I did wrong. Explain it.”
Spears then explained that Carano compared Nazi Germany to today’s political climate.
“Ok, congrats. You explained it,” Carano said.
Cruz then tried to relate to the situation, but even Carano is not a fan of the senator. Last week Cruz defended Carano on social media.
“Do not associate yourself with me,” Carano told Cruz. “I am strong and you are a pile of soup. I am first class and you are a coach.”
Spears decided she had enough and ended the show with a prayer that we need to forgiving of each other. “So blessings to all,” she said. “And live… from New York its’s Saturday Night!”
Saturday’s’ episode of SNL was hosted by Bridgerton’s Rege-Jean Page and Bad Bunny was the musical guest.
