Saturday Night Live mocked Kendall Jenner‘s controversial Pepsi ad in last night’s episode.
The show, which aired on April 8, featured Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney. It portrayed the controversial ad from the director’s point of view.
Before filming starts, the director chats on the phone about his idea for the commercial. Multiple people tell him that the idea is not that good.
Eventually, the director gets the point. “Oh, we’re just using them … to sell soda,” he realizes.
Cecily Strong, playing Jenner in the sketch, calls a friend to describe the commercial before going on set. “Um, I stop the police from shooting people by handing them a Pepsi? I know, it’s cute, right?”
The real ad was criticized for cultural appropriation and being tone deaf. Subsequently, Pepsi pulled it off the air.
