'Saturday Night Live' Fires Brooks Wheelan
Brooks Wheelan, who was one of the new faces on Saturday Night Live last season, has been fired from the comedy sketch show.
Brooks Wheelan Fired From 'SNL'
Wheelan, 27, announced his firing on Twitter with a sense of humor. “Had a blast and loved every second of it,” he wrote. “I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke… FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!”
Comedy director Judd Apatow appears to be a fan of the young comic talent, tweeting him, “You will have the Robert Downey Jr. post SNL career! (minus the painful drug addiction). Rock on friend!" Appreciating the confidence from Apatow, Wheelon joked about playing Iron Man in the 2021 reboot.
Wheelan joined the cast of Saturday Night Live for its 39th season. Tina Fey introduced him alongside fellow newcomers Beck Bennett, John Milhiser, Kyle Mooney, Mike O'Brien and Noel Wells during the season premiere last September. During the season, Wheelan often played a version of himself on Weekend Update and wrote a few sketches, including the 12 Years a Slave audition sketch.
The status of Bennett, Milhiser, Mooney, O’Brien, Wells and Sashir Zamata – who joined the cast in January – is unknown.
