The Skeleton Twins, starring Saturday Night Live alums Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, shows a more serious side of the actors in its first trailer.
Wiig and Hader play estranged twins Maggie and Milo, who reunite after learning that they’ve both cheated death after attempting suicide on the same day. During their reunion, they endeavor to learn about where they each took a wrong turn in their lives. Now in their 30s, Maggie is struggling with her reluctance to have a child with her husband Lance (Luke Wilson), while Milo is still reeling from a breakup with his longtime boyfriend (Ty Burrell).
Rounding out the main cast are Joanna Gleason, Kathleen Rose Perkins and Adriane Lenox.
Though The Skeleton Twins deals with serious themes, Wiig and Hader’s respectic comedic chops aren't wasted. One of the many promising scenes from the trailer features the two lip-syncing and dancing to Starship’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.”
The Skeleton Twins, directed by Craig Johnson from a screenplay he co-wrote with Mark Heyman, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews.
The Skeleton Twins premieres Sept. 19.
