Sarah Silverman wrote a tweet that seemed to suggest a coup against Donald Trump would be a good idea. Yesterday, she went back on her words with two more tweets.
Silverman, a comedian, tweeted on Wednesday, “WAKE UP & JOIN THE RESISTANCE. ONCE THE MILITARY IS W US FASCISTS GET OVERTHROWN.” Her tweet came after a violent protest at UC Berkeley.
Silverman has been a vocal critic of Trump since his election last year and frequently tweets and retweets criticism of Trump’s policies.
Following uproar online, Silverman has walked back a tweet calling for the military to overthrow President Trump. She said she felt fear and was “trying to keep in check.”
Silverman has been a notable Democratic activist in the last year. At the Democratic National Convention in July, she memorably told Bernie Sanders’ activists, “You’re being ridiculous!, when they booed her endorsement of Hillary Clinton.
