After attending a White House dinner with Donald Trump on Wednesday night, Sarah Palin, Kid Rock and Ted Nugent disrespected Hillary Clinton by taking a mocking picture in front of her portrait.
Clinton’s portrait hung in the White House basement, along with portraits of other former First Ladies. The trio posed in front of the portrait, with facial expression and hand gestures unabashedly mocking the former senator and Secretary of State. Palin’s face was contorted in a scornful grimace, Kid Rock’s arms were crossed firmly across his chest, and Nugent’s thumb signaled a “get outta here” gesture.
The internet responded accordingly, with people calling it tasteless and crass. New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman reminded the trio that they weren’t at a rally, tweeting: “Doesn’t matter what the political party is, it’s the White House, not a rally, and it’s an official portrait, not a cardboard cutout.”
Other Twitter users have criticized the group for their immaturity and rudeness.
Palin, former Alaska governor and John McCain‘s 2008 running mate, immediately took to her Facebook page and posted the slew of photos from her White House visit. The post garnered much criticism, with commenters calling it “disrespectful” and “straight up classless.” The three have also been called “the redneck holy trinity.”
“What a bunch of disrespectful idiots,” one person wrote beneath the photo. “You call yourselves proud Americans and behave like 3rd graders in the White House. I don’t care if you like her or not. You are disrespectful.”
Paul Begala, former White House counselor to President Bill Clinton, also expressed his views on the picture.
“It’s a white trash Mount Rushmore,” the CNN pundit said sarcastically. “I love it. Look at them. That’s just perfect.”
