Sarah Palin Dukes it Out with PETA

It seems that the Alaskan caribou aren't safe from at least one Mama Grizzly out there.

Animal rights groups, including People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), are none too pleased about Sunday night's episode of Sarah Palin's Alaska, which features reality star and former politician Sarah Palin proudly shooting and killing an Alaskan caribou on a hunting excursion. Palin argued on the episode that hunting is sometimes necessary in her home state, saying, "In many remote areas of Alaska, there's no grocery store nearby!"

Palin seems to have anticipated the attack, as she defended herself on Facebook before the episode aired. "Unless you've never worn leather shoes, sat upon a leather couch or eaten a piece of meat, save your condemnation of tonight's episode," she posted, going on to emphasize, "I remain proudly intolerant of anti-hunting hypocrisy."

Her preemptive strike didn't faze PETA. "Sarah seems to think that resorting to violence and blood and guts may lure people into watching her boring show," said PETA vice president Dan Mathews. "But the ratings remain as dead as the poor animals she shoots."

Palin doesn't seem to be losing sleep over the event, however — quite the opposite. "When you see that you have a successful hit, it's a great feeling of accomplishment," she said. —KIMBERLY STEELE
