Married actors Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick will be riffing on marriage onstage for a revival of the classic Neil Simon comedy Plaza Suite. In a statement provided to uinterview, the revival’s full cast was announced, and it was revealed that rehearsals began today after the revival was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sarah Jessica Parker News

Broderick is an accomplished stage actor who has won two Tony awards for performances in both a Musical and a Play. Parker also acted in several Broadway productions in the ’90s, and even had a starring turn as Princess Winnifred in Once Upon A Mattress, before her role in Sex and the City catapulted her to superstardom.

Both Broderick and Parker will be stretching their acting chops by portraying three separate married couples in Plaza Suite, as a new couple stays in the play’s titular Suite 719 over its three acts.

Plaza Suite first premiered at Broadway’s Plymouth Theatre in 1968. It was directed by Mike Nichols, who took home a Tony Award for the play. A revival was first attempted at the Hudson Theatre, with previews beginning March 13, 2020, but the show’s run was soon postponed after Broadway theaters were closed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

John Benjamin Hickey, an actor best known for winning a Tony for his performance in The Normal Heart, will be making his Broadway directorial debut as this revival’s director. The other cast members announced are Danny Bolero as The Waiter, Molley Ranson as Jean McCormick/Mimsey Hubley, and Eric Wiegand as The Bellhop/Borden Eisler.

Previews are set to begin on Friday, February 25, and the official opening night will be a month later on Monday, March 28, at the Hudson Theatre.
