Sarah Ferguson Says She Would ‘Do It All Over Again, 100%’ Of Marriage To Disgrace Ex, Prince Andrew

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, said that when it came to marrying Prince Andrew, Duke of York, she would “do it all over again, 100 percent.”

In an interview with her sister, Jane Luedecke, for The Sunday Times, Ferguson said that she was in love with Andrew—whom she married in 1986 and divorced 10 years later—noting that he was a great man with a great heart and was kind. During their marriage, the two raised two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

“Our wedding was the best day of my life,” she continued, “But I gave up my anonymity that day. I was able to because love conquers all. It’s still with us today.”

Allegations of assault by the duke, his forced step back from his work as a royal, his association with Jeffery Epstein, and, most recently, his association with an alleged Chinese spy, the duchess has not left his side. Her defense of him shows her support, even after their divorce.

“I won’t let him down,” she said. “He supports me as much as I support him. He’s supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. We agreed on the three C’s – communication, compromise, and compassion.”

Recalling her sister leaving for Australia and having to look after their ailing father, Major Ronald Ferguson, she compares her time with her father to the time she spends defending Andrew now.

“I became a carer for Dad; I was left to look after a sad man, which is sort of what I’m doing now,” she said,

Even before her marriage to Prince Andrew, Ferguson was closely connected to the royal family. “I’ve known the King all my life, and I have adored him,” Fergurson said of King Charles, “He’s kind and makes me laugh, and I love that he still calls me Fergie.”

Ferguson recalled how she first met Prince Andrew when she was 12. “My first thought was that I was going to marry him,” she said. “We came back into each other’s lives when [Princess] Diana invited me to Ascot in 1985, and six months later, we were engaged.”

“I was ‘the breath of fresh air,'” Ferguson said about her marriage to the royal family. “Everyone loved me – it was addictive. I think what I did wrong was I got lost, probably trying to be like Diana.”

While Prince Andrew’s connection to the alleged Chinese spy dominated headlines, reports emerged on Dec. 16 that neither the Duke, Duchess of York nor their daughters would spend Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham.
