Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson shared that she believes her pet corgis are channeling the late Queen Elizabeth.

Ferguson adopted Queen Elizabeth’s last two surviving corgis, Muick and Sandy, following her passing in 2022.

After having had a close relationship with Queen Elizabeth, Ferguson described herself as “sure” that the late queen “talks to her” through the dogs’ barks. Ferguson told the audience at the Creative Women Platform in London, “I have her dogs, I have her corgis. Every morning they come in and go, ‘woof woof’ and all that, and I’m sure it’s her talking to me. I’m sure it’s her, reminding me she’s still around.”

Throughout her life, Queen Elizabeth famously had at least one corgi. She received her first one, Dookie, from her father in 1933 at just 7 years old. She went on to own over 30 in her lifetime, the majority of which were descendants of a corgi named Susan, given to her as an 18th birthday gift in 1944. A photo from Queen Elizabeth’s funeral notably showed the two corgis in attendance.

In the past, Ferguson has spoken about the dog Muick’s intense connection to Queen Elizabeth, saying that the dog grieved for about a year following her death in 2022. Muick was named for one of the Queen’s favorite spots near the summer retreat of Balmoral Castle.

Ferguson went on to praise the late Queen at the Creative Women Platform, saying, “The real thing is that I had the greatest honor to be her daughter-in-law. You know, that’s really huge…When I was driving here, I saw the Elizabeth [train] line… I want everyone to remember what an amazing lady she was.”

Ferguson posted a clip of the corgi moment on Instagram, accompanied by the caption, “It was a pleasure to join so many inspiring women at the Creative Women Platform Forum.”

She continued, “We gathered to celebrate the vital role women play in shaping a more sustainable, innovative and compassionate world. I was especially proud to reflect on the incredible example set by Her Late Majesty The Queen. A guiding light in my life, and for so many others around the world 💜.”
