Sara Bareilles will play Ariel in a live staged concert featuring songs from Disney’s The Little Mermaid at the Hollywood Bowl.
Bareilles, who has long performed “Part of Your World” from Little Mermaid at her shows, announced her participation in the concert in a statement.
“I suppose this is the part where I say, ‘Dreams do come true,'” Bareilles said. “I am truly honored and excited beyond words to be a part of a performance of one of my favorite scores and stories of all time. I’ve been pretending I was Ariel in swimming pools since I was a little girl, and now I get to pretend on a bigger stage. This is just fantastic.”
Bareilles is joining a cast that also includes Pitch Perfect’s Rebel Wilson, who is playing the evil villain Ursula in the production. “I hope to do the amazing Pat Carroll [the original animated singing voice] proud by performing Ursula’s song,” she said. “It’s just such a delicious role that I’ve always wanted to play.”
Glee‘s Darren Chris has been cast as Prince Eric and Titus Burgess, the Broadway star who broke out in the Netflix series The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, is playing Sebastian. John Stamos is on board to play Chef Louis and Norm Lewis has been cast as King Triton.
The Hollywood Bowl is on June 4. Tickets will go on sale April 9.
