On Tuesday night, Saoirse Ronan guest starred on The Late Show and gave host, Stephen Colbert, an Irish pronunciation lesson.
Ronan helped the host pronounce a handful of tricky Irish names, including Tadhg, Niamh, Oisin, and Caoimhe and of course, her own name. “Its Saoirse, like inertia.”
On the last name, Caoimhe, pronounced “Quiver”, Colbert jokingly told the Brooklyn actress “to go to hell.”
Ronan also teaches the host to speak with an Irish accent and poked fun at people when they impersonate the accent. The actress told Colbert to “keep your throat open because its a very sing-songy accent.”
