San Francisco 49ers’ Ricky Pearsall, Who Was Shot In The Chest In Rolex Robbery, Released From Hospital

Ricky Pearsall, a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, has been released from a hospital after he was shot during an attempted robbery in San Francisco.

On Saturday afternoon, Pearsall was shot by a 17-year-old, who allegedly tried to steal his Rolex watch and was also injured during the incident before he was taken into custody, in the city’s Union Square area.

The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver signed autographs earlier in the afternoon before heading to that location.

On the same day of the shooting, his team posted a statement on X in which they disclosed that he “sustained a bullet wound to his chest” and was “in serious but stable condition.”

During a news conference on Saturday night, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott, Mayor London Breed and District Attorney Brooke Jenkins offered updates on the shooting.

According to Scott, Pearsall, who was shot “at about 3:37 p.m.,” had been “in front of 77th Geary Street about 20 yards from Grant Street in San Francisco.”

“He was walking alone when a suspect approached him and attempted to commit – to commit an armed robbery using a gun,” the police chief added. “A struggle between Mr. Pearsall and the suspect ensued, and the suspect’s gun struck – gunfire from the suspect’s gun struck both Mr. Pearsall and the suspect.”

“Both Mr. Pearsall and the subject were transported to San Francisco General Hospital,” he added. “San Francisco police officers assigned to the Union Square detail and Central Station responded almost immediately and arrested the subject as he tried to run away eastbound from the crime scene.”

“The subject has been identified as a seven 17-year-old male who resides in Tracy, California,” he stated. “Thankfully, Mr. Pearsall is in stable condition.”

“Although the subject is in custody, this still is an active investigation,” Scott declared.

“This is how we hold people accountable in San Francisco,” Breed declared. “Robberies and any violence like this will not be tolerated in our city.”

Jenkins stated that her office is expected “to make a charging decision” for the shooter “by either this Tuesday or Wednesday.

“Given that the suspect is a juvenile at this time, those charges will be filed in the juvenile court as we continue to review the evidence to figure out where to go from there,” she mentioned.

Later on during the briefing, Scott said that Pearsall was “talking, and that’s a good thing.”

The police chief revealed that the suspect was also hospitalized in stable condition.

He even said two rounds were fired from the suspect’s gun during the incident. The gun had been recovered at the scene.

Scott said there was no implication that the wide receiver “was targeted because he was a football player.” Investigators also think that the suspect acted alone.

He and Breed said there are additional officers in Union Square already, and following this incident, they will keep increasing the number of officers in that area.

“San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was released from the hospital this afternoon as he continues to recover from a bullet wound to his chest,” the 49ers mentioned in a statement. “He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital.”

In late June, Pearsall was chosen by his team in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
